Next Brunch Club announced – Ukraine and its lard(er)

After nearly a month of travelling in this fascinating, multifaceted, rich in soil and people’s stories, land, I would like to invite you to sample the delights of my exploration.

And it is not all about salo, if  you wondered.

Ukrainian feasting.

When: Sunday 18 September 2011, noon.

Where: secret location in Wood Green.

Who: 12 places max

What’s on the menu?

I’ll be galloping, no strolling, through different Ukrainian regions, just my current thoughts:

Trans-Carpathian Banush

(luscious polenta-like stew of corn, home-made sourcream and shkvarki)

Banush, from the border with Moldova.

Aubergine and tomatoes stacks from Nikolaev

(my mum’s family’s recipe)

Lviv oladushki

(plump little pancakes, made with a secret ingredient)

Kievan okroshka

(exquisite cold soup made with kefir)

Syrnik

(best dessert I’ve had in Ukraine, made with home-made farmer’s cheese)

Syrnik from the Carpathian mountains.

and, of course,

the (now!) world famous salo.

Salo - the king of all foods.

£25 per person, which will include a couple of alcoholic drinks and at least 6 courses. Plus, my stories, Ukrainian music and some very authentic tableware…

  1. Count me in!! Well done! I am looking forward to your cooking and stories!!!

  2. Hi Katrina,

Thanks for entertaining us all yesterday. I had a fantastic time as I’m sure everyone else did. You really did put a lot of effort into the food – and it showed!

It was fun ‘learning as we ate’. In fact I learned a lot, as I ate a lot :-)

As I’ve just mentioned in my blog post, I would highly recommend it to anyone, whether they are a foodie, or just want a fun meal out.

Hope to see you again soon!!!

    Paul
